The MDS Team
Mathew D. Shake, MAI has over 20 years of real estate experience (valuation, development, and brokerage). He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration with an emphasis in Finance and Real Estate. Mr. Shake has been a resident of San Diego since 1985, but began his appraisal career in Washington State, also completing valuation assignments in Arizona. Mr. Shake was an associate appraiser with the prestigious firm of Jones, Roach & Caringella, Inc. and recently departed to become a team leader in the formation of MDS. He has served the local chapter of the Appraisal Institute on the Experience Review Committee and oversight of Affiliate Member Services – Legal. Mr. Shake has extensive experience and specializes in highly complex valuation assignments, litigation support, and consultation for estate planning.
Andre Desjardins, MAI has over 20 years of commercial real estate experience (valuation and brokerage), and he is the team leader for retail, office, and industrial assignments at MDS. Mr. Desjardins holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration with an emphasis in Marketing. He has been a resident of San Diego since 1982, and began his appraisal career with the firm of Jones & Roach, Inc. (known now as Jones, Roach & Caringella, Inc.). His commercial real estate brokerage background includes landlord representation for the leasing of a 750,000 square foot portfolio of retail, office, and industrial properties, and he has participated in numerous investment sales and owner/user purchases. His brokerage experience enables him to recognize the important deal points in purchase contracts and leases, which in turn allows MDS clients to make truly informed asset management and/or underwriting decisions. Mr. Desjardins’ established contacts within the brokerage community ensure the most recent, reliable, and relevant market data are incorporated into MDS analyses. Over the last several years, Mr. Desjardins has focused on the retail property sector and has become one of Southern California’s leading experts in the valuation of power centers, community and neighborhood shopping centers, and strip centers.
Michael J. McDeavitt, MAI is the third team leader with MDS, and has over 15 years of real estate valuation experience. Mr. McDeavitt holds a Bachelors of Business Administration degree with an emphasis in Finance. He has completed assignments in numerous states, including: California, Texas, Arkansas, Oklahoma, and Arizona. He is qualified to appraise and advise clients for numerous property types, but in the last several years he has specialized primarily in multi-family valuation and consulting. He has an established reputation with multi-family brokers, lenders, and market participants who respect and rely upon his extensive knowledge of the multi-family market and trends in San Diego County.
Chris Meitzen, MAI has 10 years of commercial real estate experience, and he began his career as a graduate research assistant at The Real Estate Center at Texas A&M University – the nation’s largest publicly funded organization devoted to real estate research. Mr. Meitzen holds a Bachelors of Business Administration degree, with an emphasis in Finance, and a Master of Science degree in Land Economics & Real Estate, from Texas A&M University. Following his early academic-oriented career, he accumulated a broad base of commercial real estate appraisal experience in California, Michigan, Illinois, Indiana, and Ohio. Prior to joining MDS, Mr. Meitzen was Assistant Vice President with a global commercial real estate services firm where he consulted on a variety of commercial real estate property types.
